From a small top-floor apartment: an apartment to satisfy every need is the driving motivation that inspired the designers of the large Lombardy Towers residential complex, built in San Donato Milanese, seven kilometres from the centre of Milan, which is easily reached by taking the metro – Line 3. In an area surrounded by greenery, the settlement is characterised by the quest for "total urban quality" in the design of spaces and services, and with the human aspect at the centre of the choices made. Hence the curved and dynamic surfaces in contrast to the monotony of the common orthogonal buildings, which is not only an external embellishment: the highly diversified floor plan of the individual units also reflects the primary intention of these "Towers": to offer the greatest possible variety of articulation and maximum originality in the uses of space. Overall, the neighbourhood includes 650 apartments, designed to offer peaceful home privacy to more than 2,000 people – the equivalent of a small town – who will live there. The abundant use of glass surfaces in all the buildings brightens the rooms, while the presence of large open spaces (balconies, loggias and terraces) promotes outdoor living and contact with nature. Another salient feature is the range of more than 100 types of housing, which allows for a suitable range of choices to cover every specific need. And it certainly not some useless pork barrel project in the middle of nowhere: the area has long boasted specific structures for services and leisure – from shopping centres to health care and social facilities, not to mention the schools (up to high school), sporting facilities and recreational areas with particular focus on green spaces.
Ten thousand lighting points: The installation of the Idea series in all the common areas and in 400 apartments represents a single supply of over 10,000 lighting points, which further consolidates the presence Vimar in Milan. Besides the basic functions, including the Vimar universal Bpresa (twin-gauge) sockets and Universal Safety sockets, all the solutions maximising security have been adopted: from intruder alarm systems with phone alerts to gas detectors. The electrical intallations were performed by Gruppo 3S s.r.l. of Milan (1st lot) and Euro Elettrica Impianti s.r.l. of Pieve Emanuele, MI (2nd lot).
